In the most extensive AI researcher survey to date, 602 experts weighed in on AI progress predictions. Notable findings include a 37% chance that AI could write essays like humans by 2024, a 32% chance of AI performing any job by 2026, a 50% chance of AI matching human translation skills by 2028, a 50% chance of AI rivaling human surgical skills by 2034, a 54% chance of AI driving as well as humans by 2040, a 50% chance of AI authoring bestsellers by 2045, and another 50% chance of AI mastering all human jobs by 2050. The median projection for AI achieving human-level performance in all jobs stands at 2060, but 30% of researchers don't believe it will be achieved over the next 200 years. While 2050 might appear distant on the horizon, it's crucial to recognize the profound transformations that lie ahead in the pursuit of these remarkable milestones. Isomorphic Labs, a Google DeepMind spin-off, has partnered with pharmaceutical giants Eli Lilly and Novartis to use AI for drug discovery, with a combined value of around $3 billion. Isomorphic will receive upfront payments of $45 million from Eli Lilly and $37.5 million from Novartis, along with substantial performance-based incentives. This collaboration is significant because it leverages DeepMind's AlphaFold 2 AI technology, which predicts protein structures to aid drug development. 🤔 What Does that even Mean?Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs): A type of neural network where connections between nodes form a directed graph along a temporal sequence, allowing it to exhibit temporal dynamic behavior. Used in applications like language modeling. Example: An email app uses RNN for its predictive text feature.
