OpenAI has officially launched Sora, its video generation model, now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users at sora.com. The updated Sora Turbo version generates videos up to 1080p resolution, 20 seconds long, and supports multiple aspect ratios. Users can create videos from text, images, or remix existing content with new tools like storyboards. But the high demand for the app has the company scrambling to keep their servers running. A message currently displayed on the signup page says that account creation is temporarily unavailable due to heavy traffic. The company had “significantly underestimated demand” and that it’ll take a while to get everyone access to Sora. While Sora has limitations, such as unrealistic physics and complex actions, OpenAI emphasizes safety, adding visible watermarks, C2PA metadata, and safeguards against misuse like deepfakes and harmful content. Sora is free for Plus users (limited to 50 videos) with a Pro plan offering extended access.
