📰 AI News and Trends
Meta has entered the Frontier Class Model raceMeta just stopped asking to be taken seriously and started demanding it. On Monday, the company launched Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, frontier-class models (codename “Watermelon”) trained on its gigawatt-scale Prometheus data center and aimed squarely at OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. The pitch isn’t raw IQ; it’s staying power. “Active Memory” carries what matters about you across days and months, and “Active Focus” keeps an agent pushing toward a goal when it hits a wall. If those claims hold, Meta’s play is to own the personal agent that lives inside the apps billions of people already open every day. The catch is that every benchmark so far is Meta’s own, and an AI that remembers everything about you is a privacy and security problem as much as a feature. Police Now Have an AI That Can Match a Photo of a Room to a Specific HomeIf Flock cameras did not scare you enough, let me introduce you to Raven (formerly GeoSpy), an AI tool from Graylark Technologies that can take a single photo of a room’s interior and match it to the specific home it was taken in. In company demo videos, a washer/dryer photo led to a particular Airbnb in Charlotte, a bathroom photo led to a Vrbo in Montecito, and a room photo led to a Zillow listing in San Francisco, all in seconds and with no location metadata. It isn’t a reverse image search. The tool picks out distinctive features in the room and matches them to other photos of the same property. The scariest part is that the CEO has said the company didn’t train it to do this, and that the ability emerged while testing the model. The Los Angeles Police Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office have bought access to the tool. The sheriff’s office says its use has been “limited and largely exploratory,” with no significant breakthroughs or arrests. It’s unclear how representative the marketing demos are of everyday performance. Airbnb and Zillow say scraping their sites violates their terms, and Airbnb says it has no relationship with Graylark and is reviewing the case. Vrbo didn’t respond. The company pitches the tool for trafficking and exploitation cases. When 404 Media first covered it in January 2025, the tool was open to anyone, and some users in the company’s Discord asked for help stalking women. Access was restricted to government and enterprise users only after the outlet contacted the company. The bigger takeaway is that any interior photo posted publicly, or any home that has appeared in a listing, may now be easier to trace back to a physical address. Public Execution or Not?Poll textThe Pentagon plans to livestream the firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter who killed 13 people in 2009. The debate is heated. Supporters, including Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, argue that executions should be public and brutal to deter violence. They point to George Washington, who authorized public military executions to reinforce discipline, and say society has become too soft. Critics, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Sen. Thom Tillis, argue that a livestream could help terrorist groups recruit and compare it to public executions in oppressive dictatorships. Even Trump has reportedly expressed doubts. Where do you stand on livestreaming Hasan’s execution?
